Game Description

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island is a platforming video game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System produced and released by Nintendo. It is a reference to the first appearance of Yoshi on Super Mario World. The player takes care of various Yoshis, rather than playing as Mario, while Mario appears as a helpless infant.

The game is well known for its unique style of art, which clashed heavily with the pre-rendered style of contemporary games that Donkey Kong Country popularized. In August 1995, after four years of development, Yoshi’s Island was released in Japan, and two months later worldwide.
