A surprisingly depressing announcement was made at today's December Nintendo Direct event, as Nintendo's President Iwata announced the launch of Sonic Lost WorldDLC based on a Nintendo property. Introducing the Yoshi's Island Zone, a DLC pack of what appears to be 2DSonic Lost World levels set in a setting based on the upcoming Yarn Yoshi Wii U title. Today's Nintendo Direct had an unexpected amount of Yoshi's Island content.

Yoshi's Island Zone Sonic Lost World Series
I say surprisingly depressing, because this is a Sonic title, man. It's pretty depressing in itself that Sega has had to get Nintendo to publish its games on the Wii U, let alone now requiring Nintendo-themed level DLC to help their game sell better. Ugh, just thinking about how far Sega has fallen since its days of waging a war against Nintendo grosses me out.
The DLC itself looks fine. In fact, this may be more than we've ever seen of the actual Yarn Yoshi Wii U game and oddly enough it's SonicDLC. Plus, I think 2DSonic levels are much more interesting than 3D levels, due to their iconic nature. Sonic is just meant to be in 2D, yo.
Sonic Lost World's Yoshi's Island Zone DLC is available right now for free on the Wii U (no announcement regarding 3DSDLC). Oh, and before Iwata signed off he teased another upcoming Sonic Lost World DLC launch. He wasn't specific, but he definitely made mention of Link while he rambled. Expect details on a Hyrule zone within the next few months.
